Why six quarts? You need to stop for fuel every 250-300 miles. Most service stations have oil. If you need 6 quarts in 300 miles you most likely need a tow truck anyway.

The only problem I see with keeping oil back there is that engine temperatures may cause the bottles to leak from expansion. Altitude changes will add to that. I've had that happen with oil under reat seat.
