If you see metal shavings, hear bad noises, and have coolant loss you most likely lost the water pump bearings. Do not operate the engine this way. The bad noise is the pump impellar chewing out part of the engine case and enough damage here will result in por pump performance and cooling problems at low speed and idle. You may pay more but the pump should be avialable through any good import source next day or two. Many on line-list vendors can also get it for. If you are paying a shop to repalce it plan on ~ 3 hours labor. Try to amtch the antifreeze already in there unless you plan to flush and re-fill. There are many discussions on bleeding the cooling system. Be sure whoever does the job knows that it may need to be done.

If the block is grooved from the impeller a good epoxy can be used to repair it.
