My smog guy said it's always a good idea to have replaced the oxygen sensor prior to testing. Two years ago my van had barely passed and he commented that it might not pass the next time. For that reason, I had a tune-up and replaced the oxygen sensor, then made certain it was good and hot prior to testing, and it passed easily.
