Your engine management system sounds the the same as the European
112hp "DJ" wasserboxer, which I always found ran better than the
"MV" system we have here. They ran these with 10.5:1 cr
pistons and I think 12 BTDC timing, but required the use of premium fuel
to do this. I ran mine, for the little bit of time they were in
there before swapping to TDI, at 3 BTDC and regular fuel and never had a
problem.
I think I averaged about 12 to 13L per 100km at
100km/h when driving these.
