Subject: Looking for some parts / questions on problems
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes
hello everyone,
Parts Needed:
I am looking for the long plastic strip and screws that go in front of
the sliding door when you open the door to the interior of the van,
the previous owner must have removed it or damaged it as its not on my
van. I was looking at my friends 86 westy and noticed all of these
items that he has that I don't.
-Fiberglass and mounts that go under the gas cap on a carat or
wolfsburg (it has the hole in the bottom of it for the jack).
- replacement part, in engine bay there is a inter-connect of 2
plastic connector that connects the brown wires which come from the
engine to the temp sensor I believe? Either way mine is broken and
need another.
- gas pedal in good shape.
- map holder for the passenger side.
Here's some issues:
The auto transmission shifter. It will shift without depressing in the
thumb release, what is wrong that it does this? I always worry that
passenger's foot will hit the shifter when they cross their legs.
What's the fix to make sure you have to fully depress the thumb button
before switching gears?
How do you set the interior lights to go on when the door opens? Am I
missing a relay in the fuse box for this? My friends van does this and
my old Carat did this but my current wolfsburg does not...
- Temp sensor on the dash all of a sudden is not moving. Replaced the
black and blue engine and oil sensors recently. Found the brown wire
from what I believe is the water pump leading to the sensors and the
plastic interconnect to be damaged, so I spliced a coupler in place
between the wires, still no activity. Once in a while the oil sensor
goes off and buzz's. I just replaced all the oil and changed the
filter (mechanic did I should say with Mobil 15-50 for NY weather).
- Coolant reservoir, I use the Prestone Phasphate free Dex Cool
Coolant (orange stuff), I see some clumpy orange stuff on the top edge
of the tank what is this? Do I need a coolant flush? Had one done a
year ago, all it seemed to do is exasperate all the pipe problems and
cause them to blow after use, and me having to replace a bunch of
pipes other misc. plastic parts. Just wondering if this is something
to be concerned about?
- Engine Noise - My friends 86 manual is so much quieter than my
engine even at idle, it sounds really smooth while mine sounds
noisier, could this mean I need my valves to be adjusted? What is the
cost for this? The previous owner told me the engine was rebuilt at
150,000 miles. It has 236,000 miles on it.
- Pop Top Installation Process
How hard is to install a pop top on a Wolfsburg? Is there a template
for the cuts? How long does it take? Is there anyone on the east coast
that does these installs? (thinking it would be easier to go to
someone who has done them before then for me to mess around with it
for hours figuring it out.)
I know there is a lot here, but thanks to all.
