that's exactly the wire it was. I actually have no idea what this wire is... I wish I had looked at it with the fridge out. According to the diagram in my fridge manual, there should only be 3 DC wires, but together with the 3 in the connector this makes 4 of them.

My statement on the ground was not based on any actual knowledge!
