a few things are strange about your post. is this on a syncro ? Only Syncro's have front CV joints of course.

also.........If you found one CV joint loose- you sure better check that all of them are tight !! It can do some real damage if the 6 bolts holding a CV on all work themselves loose. This can be a real issue, even very unsafe if in the front of a syncro

it would only be CV joint grease coming out of a CV joint screw or boot. not transmission gear oil, or if it's a syncro .............front differential oil. Hope you get it figured out.

if this is the rear on a 2WD vanagon, you better check all 24 CV joints screws back there, - that they are well-tightened.
