What I was going to finish saying before my computer pushed the send button for me is ---yes its worth fixing if you can afford to fix it and the comfort price is worth it to you.   I plan on keeping my van in great shape with everything working for quite a long time... especially with the new gas prices.  I won't be able to run a larger vehicle when I retire as I had thought I would.  For me, living in a very hot climate as I do, makes it extremely valuable to have an operative AC system, and in this particular vehicle because I just love it (expecially now that I figured out how to get 20 mpg consistantly).  I thought it was going to cost $1500 to have it fixed, so the $800 was tolerable.  Hopefully what ever is wrong with mine won't take much more to fix.  My thoughts.. Madeline

Last year a mechanic charged my system, replaced a leaky valve, and it worked fine all summer here in Phoenix - though I was warned the squeal in the compressor might mean it was on its way out.  With the old compressor it cooled the inside of the van in about 15 min. down to a nice 75-78 degrees... so obviously something is not quite During the winter the freon leaked a bit so I paid $800 for new compressor, dryer, freon charge, and dye testing (the leak was the compressor seal not the o rings).  Now, all I get out the vent is 68 degrees which isn't enough to cool the big box.  Its going back in on Monday.
