If you're talkin' the blue rtv silicone.
I never let any of that come within 5 miles of any engine I'm working
on, or even within 5 miles of my shop. it's not good stuff.

I just put "Permatex High Tack" gasket sealer ( the brush-on one )  on
the water pump o-ring. that works dead perfect.
and you can fill the cooling system as soon as you finish putting it
together.
that is THE gasket sealer as far as I'm concerened.
comes in brush-on or spray on for when you want an extra thing even coat.
