Hi Courtney,

HWY 12 through Idaho is a beautiful drive - HIGHLY recommended....but you want a reliable vehicle as there's at least one pretty long section where you won't see any towns/services. If you are looking for shops and places to eat, I'm afraid I'm not much help there - but it certainly is scenic and there are plenty of pullouts for picnics and such.

Good to take this route during this time of year... anytime close to winter....I'd not recommend it, even in a 4WD. Lolo pass can be pretty sketchy and I've been white knuckled in a 4WD truck on that section (you'll see what I mean when you get there :) But again, this time of year, it is GREAT.

-Ben (Montana)
