This is where mine is, but it was put on specifically for a Rocket Box storage unit. As I see it (opinion follows) putting a canoe or Kayak's up there would require both easier (read: maybe further back) and weight distribution. I think that putting something heavy further back runs into a more seriuos problem of oversteer, not just getting the stuff on/off the van then getting the top up.
