Remove all paint to bare metal, don't contaminate the bare metal with any
oils or esp. Armor All type stuff... keep that far away!
Use a good epoxy enamel primer, then go with a base coat - clear coat paint
combo, for the best results!

Rustoleum = U.S.
I'm a big fan of roller/brush paint jobs. I'd agree with Craig that thinning
the next coat more might help. Or maybe adopt a 12 foot standard! How about
running the engine with one plug wire removed to help settle the paint? :-)
