I have two thoughts on that.

First, it is sad however being a "Vanagon person" I'm sure scrapping a vehicle that can be fixed is highly against every instinct one has. We all cheer (if only figuratively) when one of these beauties are saved from the scrapper.

Second, I for see the price being paid for scrap will start coming down a bit because the scrap yards are having to start putting into place "systems" that deter and help prevent the scrapping of stolen material. People are not only trolling with trucks and trailers to grab up discarded items but many unscrupulous types have resorted to stealing items still being used (or that will be used again) such as the copper wiring from homes, aluminum gutters and downspouts, etc.

The store next to my house just had all of the gutters and downspouts stolen from their building in the middle of the night (how I didn't hear this I have no idea).
