Old fuel lines. Metal and rubber. Worn grommets between metal line and engine tin (air cooled) Little plastic transitions from fuel supply hose to fuel hose in the engine bay. (WBX) In the case of the Jetta engine, worn or incorrectly installed FI "O" rings between fuel rail and head, the fuel rail itself, fuel pressure regulator and/or it's seals on fuel rail, etc. Also from what I've seen, there are some fuel rails (Jetta) that have a connection to test fuel pressure. It's on the firewall end of the rail. Not sure if that every leaks, but something to check.

As a newb to Westies/Vanagons, I didn't even think of checking the fuel lines. For that matter, it wasn't shown as something the mechanics checked before I purchased it!

As you did (I assume), I put in new fuel hose for my ABA conversion. Regardless, I will visually check fuel related stuff and have a sniff around every time I look in the engine bay.

Cheers,

Neil.
