The outer CV joints are the most likely culprit I am chasing after.
Both boots cracked and grease leaked out last year. The joints were
very likely damaged already at the time. Have had new boots on and
joints greased really well. The noise persisted since then and is
getting louder. But they do not make clicking noise. It's a humming
sound that changes pitch corresponding to the speed. It could be the
wheel bearings as Zoran suggested. But the fact the boots were torn
last year it's hard to rule out the joints.
I can not even tell which side is making the noise. I will try to
circle around in a school parking lot to see if I can find anything
else to help identifying the ghost. Thanks for the tip, Neil.
