Dear Van folks
in my experience the VW auto tranny failure is all anecdotal ...
Yet the stories have been constantly consistent and across the board
every one who i have spoken to in canada over the last 15 years regarding
auto tranny in a vanagon has related that... issues arose that cost them a
lot of money ...
and of course because the issues were inside the tranny ...
the repairs were complex and complicated to discuss ...
and the issue arose in what seemed like an short amount of accumulated miles
...
(i have never been a big fan of automatic tranny any way)
(Mostly cause i have left my lights on soooo many times)
push and go ... it is the standard way ...;o)
an interesting note ... while crossing the border into canada in 2007 the
DHS guy asked me as i got out of the van ... how the tranny behaved...
i told him it was perfect as it was a five speed manual ...
he softly moaned/whistled appreciation
that conversation took all of two seconds ...
as we passed one another ...
i have often wished there would have been more opportunity to quiz him about
his vanagon experience
It may also be said that proper care and maintenance of tranny fluid levels
may have been the cause of many a VW Auto tranny problem ...
i worked in a service station for 5 years and was always amazed at the
amount of tranny fluid required by many north american vehicles
yours

There are two kinds of jobs in the world:
Picking up garbage and telling people things.
Successful people do both, with the same good attitude. (riw)
