Most passenger Vanagons from 85 on have the rear bench seat that folds flat into a comfortable bed. The back rest does not fold forward though, it folds backward as the seat bottom is pulled up and forward. If the seat in question has a release handle in the center of the top rear edge of the back rest it is supposed to fold flat as I described. The resulting bed is slightly wider than a queen size mattress and about 6 feet long. I have slept on many of these in many different Vanagons, usually with my wife. These beds are very comfortable to us and the many others who have used ours at times. Mark
