For those old enough, the same sort of foolishness went on during the late '70's "oil crisis." By far, the most significant factor in improved fuel economy is careful control of the fuel/air mixture. For Vanagons, that might translate into using a Megasquirt, which is much more advanced than the technology available to VW when the Vanagon was designed. Next in line is lowering weight and aerodynamic friction, tough to do much about either with a practical Vanagon. |
