Good work! Yes, it's much much easier to tighten it BEFORE it comes off. Drop of lock-tite maybe?

Well, I finally got it back on, but this is one of those jobs that probably took a
year off of my life.
I removed the mirror base from the door so I could turn it upside down and also get
more slack in the wires. A clamp light on the shelf overhead also helped illuminate
things. I used a tool I made many years ago, a 9/16" bicycle wrench (very thin) with
the tips ground down like twin screwdrivers, to fit in the grooves in the nut. But, I
also think on this van ('88 Westy) the threaded shaft is shorter. The nut came off
very unexpectedly.
So, note to self and others that move those mirrors, either for clearance in the
garage or in camp, if they feel loose, CHECK THE NUT.

motor mount out of the main housing, and then remove the wires from the mirror motor,
one at a time, and pull them thru the hollow shaft. Be careful, and mark which wire
goes where! This should be kept as a last resort, because of the possibility of
mistakes in reconnecting the wires.
