FWIW. I had the same issue with this "weak spot". I replaced this fuse along
with the high pressure switch that had a total meltdown when the compressor
died of old age years ago. I replaced both parts and when I got the system up
and running the fuse blew after a few days. I felt that the fuse became the
weak link due to an increase in resistance as the ring terminal connector had
also gotten hot and began to melt. The solution seemed to be to remove any
traces of corrosion and prevent it from coming back. I cut about 3 mm of the
wire and the melted connector off and used a new connector that I
soldered/crimped on and then covered all but the contact areas of this with shrink wrap.
I then cleaned up the area that the connector screws to with a Dremel tool
and then coated this with a very light layer of Vaseline. So far so good and I
have the moderate cooling ability of the a/c again. One other minor
improvement for getting the cold air from the rear to the front of the Westy was
adding a 12 volt oscillating fan mounted at the end of the tray/shelf over the
sink/stove area. Works well so I will next hardwire it with a switch and a
connector to remove it out of season.
