I wouldn't be too nervous about removing the dash. it's not that bad.......just a lot of screws, etc. I suggest start by removing instrument cluster, and glove box ( you know how it unhooks from the hingers when you get it pivoted down far enough, right ? - you undo the strap thingeys at the top........and open it ALl the way, until the stuff in it falls out, then slide it left or right right off the hinges )

remvoe the 'console cover'..........forward of the shift left - that large plastic panel just pulls straight back and off. And keep going ...... the heater levers are scary to remove sometimes......... eventually you'll be able to get the whole large dash piece off. then you'll be looking at one quite large heater box , with the fan and heater core in it. Patience and persistence is required for sure. scott www.turbovans.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Middelkoop" <john_middelkoop@LIVE.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 5:03 PM Subject: Dash removal for AC access

I have a dealer installed front mount AC on an 85 Westfalia. I had it working well but the fan went (ground to a stop and blew the fuse. It appears that it was installed by removing the dash. Looking at Haynes and the Bentley, removal will be no fun at all! What really worries me is I my not be able to get a new fan anyway. Anybody familiar with these ACs or an easier dash removal? -85 Westfalia "Folly" _________________________________________________________________ Making the world a better place one message at a time. http://www.imtalkathon.com/?source=EML_WLH_Talkathon_BetterPlace=
