All right Randal ................... 'control F' is a new one on me. I don't know if that find box was already there or my Control F made it appear. I see that it does. OK, I don't understand your # 4 insturction. I put 'tire fits in clamshell' in the find box. Messed with 'highlight all' and see 'phrase not found." so I don't quite get your instructions................and I am seeing some 'fits in stock clamshell yes' and 'fits in modifed clamshell' on some tires.

also, no mention of which version of clamshell there. I know a 205/70 R 14 won't fit in an earlier van with the 'flat bolt tab' on the front of the clamshell. Would be a nice refinement to add to the site.

does it just go to the tire after you write it in the find box ? there's no 'find' or 'go' button. I put in 195/75 R14 Wildcat and did end up seeing some Les Schab tires. but not that one, So I don't get how it works yet really.

thanks for your detailed efforts here. I just can not get what you are saying in step 4. but I've learned there is a find feature at roadhous, and that control F might be a generic find thing. I use Control C, V , and X all the time of course. And Windows Key M - that minimizes all windows instnatly. I use to to get to desktop icons quicly. Keyboard commands are the way, very fast. Mousing is tedious.

maybe 'highlight this phrase with the mouse fits in stock clamshell: yes" means ...........find the phrase 'fits in stock clamshell : yes" in the tire listings, and copy and paste those words into the find box.......... and then those tires will be highlighted - that might be what you mean.

and thanks for your great words Randal ! what makes your 97.5 Wolfsburg a 87 and a half ? is that just by production date...... or was there a helf year model on that one ? my 87 Wolfy is a 1/87 production date.

and interestingly - is has 'incomplet vehicle manufactured' .........two dates, like a westy does, but a regular 7 passneger vanagon doesn't . So did the Wolfsburg get sent out for finishing like a westy ?

I am working on the following vanagons for sale " they are all very rust free, and very dent-free too. most of them anyway , by year ............

1982 Sunroof Diesel Vanagon. Collectible grade, near showroom condition, very original, barely a tiny ding or two.

1983 rare, 5 speed Sunroof Diesel Vanagon. Very good condition. GL interior. Full size sunroof.

1983 'southewest red' Westy, pretty fresh 2.1 waterboxer engine, Recarro-like front seats. Really good paint on this one, and looks fantastic. Near perfect tent on pop top. Hoping to get this one fully ready soon. Refurbished throughout.

1985 hi-top Adventurewagen - interior layout improved over goofy stock set up. Interesting 'tangerine' tan-creeme color. Very good body, Southern California van, zero rust. Super clean iGL nterior. These high top Adventurewagons drive aeriodynamically much better than a Westy. And they don't feel top heavy either. That roof is really a good set up. Also very quite inside while driving. Makes a wonderful 'Land Yacht' . 4 speed, AC, PS, tach. 87 Wolfsburg Vanagon, silver. Z bed rear seat, Twin aft facing jump seats..............all the goodies. Aero mirrors, etc. 86 GL, great condtion, silver. Auto trans, PS, AC, tach, Z bed rear seat , no dents. and a couple of 84's......... one I call 'Yard Dog' - use it around the place for hauling stuff. 'make offer' as they say.

and .......last one on this list ........... a really sharp and clean 84 .........white on top, light blue on bottom. Paint will polish out to perfection too. Just one slightly bent area on rear roof rail -which I'll fix............and basically a perfect brown vinyl interior. West coast van. Zero rust anywhere. Great opportunity for someone to swap all their stuff from their rusted or dented badly 84 into this near cheery one.

scott www.turbovans.com curious about that '87.5' year model on your Wolfsburg

Scott, Try searching for the text string "fits in stock clamshell: yes" 1. go to the link http://www.roadhaus.com/tires.html 2. push the ctrl button plus the "f" button simultaneously 3. the 'find' window will appear on the screen 4. highlight this phrase with the mouse fits in stock clamshell: yes 5. push the ctrl button plus the "c" button simultaneously 6. this copies the text 7. place the cursor in the 'find' window at the roadhaus link 8. push the ctrl button plus the "v" button simultaneously 9. this pastes the text into the 'find' window 10. hit enter to move to the next match -- it will scroll down the screen showing each tire that fits in the clamshell which, as I understand the data source, is from people who had actually used that tire in the clamshell. Thanks for your response. I learn something new almost every time I read one of your posts to this list or to the other vanagon groups. I am impressed, as I have expressed once before, with the amazing time and energy you have to put into sharing info with the vanagon community. I appreciate it. Few can do it as well and as often as you do Scott. As far as your feedback about being lax, it has been noted. Randal '85 AW '87 Westy I-4 (for sale soon) '87.5 Wolfsburg

it's funny how it's so popular to answer someone's quiry by posting a link - then they have to go digging there.

And.........the tire reviews on roadhous are GREAT .....great resournce and great thing to see. It's probably there, but I don't see 'fits spare tire holder'.

And ......so far, to me, there are two sizes or styles of clamshells that hold the spare tire. Look where the bolt goes in the front of it to hold the clamshell up. it's either 'flat' there ( earlier vans ) or 'stepped' .....those are on later vans that can have 205/70 R 14 tires as stock. ( see the tire lable right inside the dirver's door )

my 87 Wolfsburg ( FS, btw ) takes the 205/70 R14 tries stock......and it has the clamshell that will take the wider tire.

of course........all tires of the same size don't have the same physical dimentions actually. and sometimes using a wider rim will make it difficul to get the spare to fit. This 87 Wolfy came with 14 inch alloys and 205/70 R14's and one of those should fit in the spare tire holder.

not impressed with the curtness/laziness I perceive so often on lists and groups, scott
