normaly you'd remvoe the cat and muffler first - in one big piece. then you undo 3 ends of the rear pipe - where it goes to each head, and where it goes to that cast iron junction thing where the two pipes conenct. I never undo both pipes from that piece , at least not usually.

what are you trying to do ? just out some on the middle of your rear pipe and weld in a new section ?
