The Winthrop/Twist area (Methow Valley) and the entire Highway 20 drive in WA state are beautiful.

Highly recommended as a Westy trip.

Nice forest service campgrounds in the area too. Last summer we camped at Black Pine Lake and had the whole campground (and lake) pretty much to ourselves....in the middle of summer. I think it was because the signage to the campground was not all that great, so ask a local for directions if you go.
