re the comment : "are there brake shoes for> beginners?" One very important trick you should know is ALWAYS do only one side at at time. because............ 1. going back together on the first side you can go look at the other side, and vice versa putting the second side back together. 2. the parts are reverse imagines of each other, the threaded adjsuter has the 'other thread' ........so would never want to mix those up.

3. here's a trick too- use the shoes themselves as levers to get the main heavy return springs off and on.

4. .......also, it's considerable easier to replace the shoes with the wheel mounting flange off - where the giant nut and cotter pin is. Having that flange out of the way is nice, but pretty heavy duty tools are required to get that off.

5. be sure to lube the contact points for the brake shoes on the backing plates - with 'Lubriplate' white grease. Reduces squeaking when the shoes move.

there's more tricks too, on adusting them prior to getting the drum back on, but I'll stop here. oh, and I wouldn't dream of replacing shoes without also changing the brake fluid to those wheels as well. very important to do that. scott www.turbovans.com
