I see there was one repsonse to your post here. are you staightened out now ? adjusting hydrualic lifters is a little funny. If they are all properly pumped up, then the 'take it down to contact, then 1.5 turns further ' makes fine sense. if any are not pumped up ..............then they won't feel right. I have a procedure for those if you want the input.

about there being clearance on one of your cylinders. That shouldn't happen. I haven't seen it too often, but I have seen at least one case of a damaged rocker arm, or racker arm screw, or push rod end. . Might want to check that. ( if you remove the rocker arms, be aware the inner ends of the pushrods tend to drop down out of position........ need to move them back up to the center of the lifter sometimes, to get everything in proper position ) there's never suppossed to be vavle clearance in the 'solid lifter' sense.

engine temp doesn't matter on adjusting hydrualic lifters. the biggest factor is whether each lifter is properly 'charged' with oil or not. When I have noisy lifters I first treat the oil with a 'hydrualic valve lifter cleaner. CD-2 is one brand. I've had it take up to 2 hours of running for noisy lifters to go away. Even more for the very last one to get quiet again.

one thing that will contribute to getting noisy lifters is running the engine for very short periods, Like to back it out of a garage and park it. Sometimes if you do that 4 tmes..........lifters will get noisy, and it takes a good while of running to get them all quiet again.

also oil changes are important. And a lifter treatment additive is not a bad idea if you need it in the oil. I won't mention the brands of oil I don't recommend. scott www.turbovans.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Max Wellhouse" <dimwittedmoose@CFU.NET> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Friday, July 18, 2008 4:34 AM Subject: Different Kind Of Valve Adjustment Question?
