I can't believe with all the wisdom out there, no one suggested the obvious... release the emergency brake! I won't admit this, but I know someone personally who worked on his rear drum for over 2 hours, before he realized that he hadn't released the emergency brake. (:) Ric, if this is your situation, I won't tell. Give credit to all the great advise you received! Best of luck on your project! Jack R. 84 Westy Wolfie, with new rear drums and emergency brake cable! -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Richard Golen Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2008 5:23 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Rear Brake Drum Removal Suggestions? Hi, During the engine/transmission swap on my 87 Westy, I figured I'd re-do the rear brakes. So, Alex and I removed the retaining bolts on the rear drums, but they appear to be "frozen" on to the rear axle hubs. Any suggestions on how to "pop" the drums from the hubs? Thanks in advance. Ric
