Hi all. Lots of Dometic fridge chat lately, so I thought I'd post this. Mostly for the newbies. Here's some pics of what I found with the fridge out. Seam exterior (not so bad right?): http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/KitchenSeamRust.jpg/KitchenSeamRust-full;init:.jpg Dreaded rust: http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/Rusthold.jpg/Rusthold-full;init:.jpg I did a quick and dirty treatment. Wire brushed, used a spray bottle filled with rust converter to get at the hard to reach spots, brushed more on, and wiped down the wire casings: http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/Treatedsprayed.jpg/Treatedsprayed-full;init:.jpg It's been said before, but for the newbies out there, even though the seam rust may not look super bad outside, it's worse inside. Pull your fridge, remove the factory FG insulation, (check archives for good tips on replacement material) inspect and treat as needed. Cheers, Neil. -- Neil Nicholson '81 JettaWesty "Jaco http://groups.google.com/group/vanagons-with-vw-inline-4-cylinder-gas-engines http://web.mac.com/tubaneil http://tubaneil.googlepages.com/ |
