I think 75 was the first year for the Rabbit. The Dasher was the first front drive VW in 74 and the engine was mounted front-rear. The Rabbit and Scirocco was next with the Transverse mount. The early Dogde Omni and Horizon used the block and head form the VW line up, bored out to make a 1.7 liter. It used a Holey carb. The internals, (crank and pistons) was from Mopar. This was some how part of the deal for VW to get the Westmoreland PA plant. Oh yes the made in America Rabbits. Easily identified by rectangular headlights and the push-pull head light switch. The later version of these cars got the Chrysler 2.2L. Why would you want this motor?

Of particular interest is the fact these vehicles had a 1972 Rabbit engine in them. Thanks for any leads. John Rodgers 88 GL Driver |
