I just had another one day trip to Yosemite last Sunday. This was my
2nd Yosemite trip this year. I used to make several such trips a year.
I averaged 26.5 MPG this time. I could not believe it though. I averaged
21.5MPG only two moths ago. My 83.5 Westy has a stock 1.9 WBX engine
with a new set of Cofap cylinder liners put in last year in Spring.
I basically refilled my gas tank in Modesto before hitting the road on
HWY 140 to Yosemite. I returned to Modesto to refill the gas again then
I did the calculation for the MPG. It was about 240 miles. This time I
filled up with only 9 gallons of gas.
But as I said I could not believe it. I have no idea how it could be this
good. In my previous trip I climbed the Glacier point and came out of
Yosemite from the south entrance. I refilled gas at Los Banos instead of
Modesto. I averaged 21.5 MPG. This time I went to the Tioga Pass near
White Wolf than came back out on same HWY 140 to Modesto.
I guess I might have been ligter on the pedal during this trip. My wheel
bearings are noisy and I did not want to drive too fast. And there was
no head wind to fight against throughout the trip.
I will probably make at least another trip this year again. I will see
how the MPG will be next time. I will be very happy if it does 23 - 24 MPG.
I wasn't too happy when it did 21.5 two months ago.
