for the past couple of years i have had an intermittent (less intermittent recently!) creaky clutch pedal. I immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was the shaft and bushing assembly wearing out/ needing lube. Of course I cursed myself for not doing a R&R on the pedal assembly the last time i had the dash off :) I had made half hearted attempts at getting some lube up into the shaft from underneath the dash, no boroscope, no remote manipulated arm, just doing some contortions and reaching up with oiler and hoping for the best. It didn't really work, perhaps a little less creaking, but not fixed. So the other day, in some frustration, I took a can of spray lithium grease (with straw on nozzle) and sprayed liberally from below, not caring about what else gets the grease. Guess what, it worked. I think it was not the shaft/bushing that was noisy, but rather the return spring (you can see one end attached to hole in pedal arm).
