OMG. My worst nightmares are confirmed. Mine has the same external appearance and doesn't like my lipstick on a pig(pig=rust not westfalia) attempts at a partial makeover. I'm Getting ready to start this project with wire brushes, POR 15, Bondo or sheet metal as the situation dictates (please no threads here), primer and Paintscratch paint in an airless sprayer. This is a preservation exercise only until my rig is ready for a real paint job. I will touch up any other problem areas (front quarter panel to left side main body panel and also footstep area on ingress/egress area at front doors) with these implements of reconstruction. My outside situation seems ominously simple to repair but I see the cancer that awaits me upon closer interior inspection .Of course, I have the GoWesty replacement fridge fan to install and will check some anomalies of the LED's and do a thorough list approved Dometic rehab. What will then follow will be the acquisition of a all the components needed for a 2.5 Subie upgrade and then a real paint job. Semi re-incarnation or semi-reintarnation (Y'all see I'm from the Southern Rustbelt area of ole Virginny!). I must always speak highly of my old girl as she has been as faithful as any Westy on this list and will always do her best to restore my wife's faith in the Westy concept after a bastardized attempt at a 1982 Quantum intercooled turbo Westy, ominously named by it's license plates "Brokedown Palace" for it's Dead Show expeditions; that forced innumerable roadside camping and subsequent financial hardships (you can't buy Granny a pair of $2,500.00 track shoes and expect her to run a 4 minute mile!). I digress. I have an entire file dedicated to the Dometic restoration threads and the eternal battle against rust and it's disgusting trail of destruction in our vans. But for now it's off too Floydfest via the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway for a few days of trouble-free motoring and cranial flush and fill! Enjoy your vans listees and I'll see you on the Golden Road to Unlimited Vanagon Devotion!
