Yes, it does as long as the 12V part of the system is in good working order. I've driven mine for an hour drive after getting it cool with propane and it does just fine. On longer drives (2 hours or more) I've had it frost the fins and just leave it off if I need to stop for a meal or something that takes and hour or less... If longer I'll turn on the gas portion and turn the thermostat to a fairly lower setting.
