That makes more sence to me, and it would preserve the stock heat exchangers function to help warm up the engine when cold.

However I wonder if you would ever get in the situation where the remote cooler cools the oil below the factory heat exchanger, which would then add heat to the cool oil? In thinking about this, I would guess that would be okay, since it would tend to keep the overall temperature a more constant rate.

It would be an interesting experiment to see if there is any noticable difference between which cooler goes first.

What adapter are you using? I have an RX-7 Oil cooler I got specifically to add to my WBX, I have not gotten the sandwich adapter yet.
