I recently put a Boston Bob 2.1 into my '85 Westy thinking that I would be giving up good gas mileage for more power and reliability. I was more than pleasantly surprised when I found that I had more power AND better gas mileage.

With my 1.9 I used to get about 21 mpg (GPS confirmed) at 63 mph with the air conditioner off. With the 2.1 engine, I'm getting about 22 mpg at 63 mph with the air conditioner on.

When I drove it to Virginia, I kept the speed to around 51 mph and the air off and averaged 24.92 mpg over about 1200 miles.

My old 1.9 engine, btw, had 210,005 miles on it when I swapped it out.
