Sorry to nitpick but the number on the face is for the number of speedo cable revolutions per increment of distance, miles or kms. On 2wd Vanagons the cable turns at the same speed as the left front tire so your answer works. Most other VWs, including Syncro Vanagons, use a cable driven from gearing inside the trans or front diff and so these take speedos with a much different number even though they may use the same size tires.
