IIRC, the early Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon had a stroked 1.7 version of the early inline VW engine. Don't know what year but they switched to I think it was Mitsubishi as the main small engine supplier. VW would/could not supply enough engines for the demand.

Pacer was an AMC model not related to the Chrysler line at that time.
