Common thing on Toyota drums I beleive, or perhaps Datsun.
Simple, clever, effective.  The vanagon drum is too thin in the middle area
to be able to have that feature, much too thing.

the drums that have this feature are perhaps 1/4 to 5/16's inch where the
threaded holes are.  Vanagon is about .....what 50 thousandth's thick there.
It's even sheet metal like almost.
