Tranny fluid - What O-ring around the filler ? No O-ring there that I have ever seen ! When you replaced the seal of the pan did you make sure the mating surfaces where straight, clean & smooth ? The compression fitting where the filler neck screws into the pan is always a problem. Make sure the surfaces are good. The other leak points are the output shaft seals and the various seals and gaskets between the tranny and the differential.

Motor Oil - you need new valve cover gaskets. AND, same story as above, ALL surfaces must be straight clean & smooth ! USE Loctite Ultra Copper High Temp RTV silicon sealant between the gasket and the cover, nothing on the surface between the gasket and the head.

More tranny fluid - ?????? WHAT ??????? If your leaking fluid from the power steering system then it's most likely the steel lines have rusted through. See my _Vanagon Power Steering Lines_ (http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/hose.htm) on what to do about that. Then it may also be the rack seals are leaking. Only fix here is to get a rebuilt rack. Make sure you use only Dexron III Automatic Tranny Fluid.

1. Tranny fluid: I recently changed the filter, the seal around the tranny pan, and the o-ring around the filler, hoping that some or all of these fixes would prevent more red puddles. No Dice. 2. Motor Oil: I have motor oil seeping from seemingly everywhere, most notably at the valve head cover, driver's side, after I opened it once. I was surprised to see any oil from there when I opened it. Is that normal? As for the leak, I'd expect that if I re-seat the head cover it should go away, yes? 3. More tranny fluid: I've got a leak in the power steering system and I'm thinking various hoses have given up.

Advice on any of these issues is most appreciated.<<<<<<<<

Cheers,
