Subject: Update: window screens and sliding door screen for ASI Conversion
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

A while ago, I asked for the List's help in obtaining these items. The window screens were bequeathed to me by an awesome list member (who I am sure prefers to remain anonymous) and I ordered the sliding door screen from Bus Depot (who has great prices AND great service...I've never been disappointed). The window screens went right in with some new screws, but the sliding door screen took a little more thought. I was quite unwilling to drill holes into Lola's body to attach the snaps. So I came up with this alternative, while not quite as elegant, it is acceptable to my sense of aesthetics, and my primary goal of keeping Lola as original as possible. I bought 4 heavy duty spring clips to attach the top edge of the curtain to the rain gutter over the sliding door. Then I obtained 6 rare earth magnets from Harbor Frieght, some matching vinyl from my local sewing store, and sewed 6 "pockets" for the magnets on the sides of the curtain to keep it firmly attached to the sides of the van. It actually worked out really well, and looks good too. Looking forward to trying it out next weekend in an obscure little RV park on Hwy 101 that has the greatest tent sites in the back of the park. Shady trees, green grass, picnic table, fire ring, water hookup; that's where Lola likes to hang out! Ellen & Lola, '85 Vanagon ASI Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of autumn.--John Muir _________________________________________________________________ Time for vacation?
