Its interesting how different countries have different philosophies to towing. A few years ago I broke down in rural western australia and needed a 50 mile tow for a landcruiser troopcarrier. they towed it with a toyota tacoma and a flatbed trailer (btw a towing arrangement for the much heavier landcruiser that is common in australia, I saw a couple of these being towed out this way for a forty mile rough 4wd track with fifteen river crossings) But to my surprise, they did not strap the Landcruiser down onto the trailer. Just put it in gear and handbrake. I questioned the tow truck driver about that, who said that he doesnt want the trailer and tow vehicle to get into an accident if the towed Landcruiser "goes". I guess thats one way of limiting risk... I cannot imagine though that they did that with the Landies on the 4wd track, since there was too much tilting involved there to get away without strapping down.
