The two experiences I had with the little critters, one for sure came through the front ventilation/air vents. When he tried to get back out, he got stuck (no doubt due to increased girth from his feasting) and I had to disassemble half the dash to get the remains out when he began to stink.
The second one was a tad bit smarter (or perhaps skinnier) and departed the van on his own after I returned home. Since then, I have made sure to store all my food in hard plastic containers with tight fitting lids, and there have been no further incidents of the rodent sort.
