We were having a discussion about the 928 over on a Mercedes discussion board, today. Apparently the 928 V8s were made in the same Porsche factory as the Mercedes 500E V8s at the same time during the early '90's. The Mercedes guys were remarking about how similar they were, especially the Nikasil cylinder liners.
