Are there openings under the van we should be trying to close off? One way they can get into "Some" Westies is through the vent to the outside of the battery box. If the plate at the top of the battery box is just laying there under the carpet flap, like so many of them are, the mouse, or mice, can easily come through the vent, squeeze out of the battery box and go through the floor level openings under the fridge and then into the under sink storage. Two things to do. One is to drill out the rivets on the battery box vent cover (it's outside, aft of the front wheel), put a piece of screen over the hole and reinstall the cover, and, make sure you keep the battery cover (inside under the carpet flap) screwed down and sealed.
