Paul,

As you know the manual adjustable mirrors suck - to put it mildly. Most people that I know who want to upgrade that have found themselves a pair of the later power mirrors ('87 up I think) - try EBay or the Samba or this list. They obviously will not be powered in your '82 but they will bolt on just fine and they are a bit larger and do not flop around.

I think I recall a list member using Hummer mirrors as well. Or you can find those huge off roady looking aftermarket mirrors that are pretty cool looking.
