Finally a remedy and thanks to those who made mention about the O2 sensor which when I began to read from the archives I realized my van had the classic symptoms. Call it O2 sensor denial on my behalf.

Anyway it was a bad ground wire to the sensor - the little bolt on top of the motor near cylinder number 4. Simple fix but overlooked because I had spent some time cleaning the corrosion off the bolt, washer and ground wire end when I had everything apart and was cleaning the filth off the top of the engine block. I figured the ground would be fine...ahhh to assume...

Anyway here are some pictures of 22 two year old fuel lines, injectors, clamps, etc. Thanks to all for the warning about hellish engine fires and for the step by step literature. Although my lines were surprisingly leak proof, it would only be a matter of time.
