If the speedometer is working correctly, then the odometer problem is not related to the replacement of the gas tank. It's a problem with the odometer gears themselves, inside the speedometer head.

There is lots of info on the web and in the archives about odometer repair but I've never had a problem with any of mine so I have no personal experience to share. From what I've read, many DIY repairs turned out to only be temporary and the best fix (apparently) was to send the speedometer to a speedometer repair facility.
