That's because it IS dry cleaning fluid. Perchloroethylene. Used to use it
on my sails for my boat when they got too dirty looking. I would buy a
gallon of it at the drycleaners put it in a five gallon bucket and add the
sail, then agitate like crazy. Worked great. The first time I sprayed
BrakeKleen, I recognised the smell immediately. Developed during the second
world war I believe as a safe degreaser. I hardly think it's safe though.
