That was an NHTSA requirement Neil, like seat belts!

We're looking for things we can blame on the VW designers! :)

Like the fibreglass bumpers & the WBX. It sure seems weird that they would fit the diesel I-4 and then abandon the mounting system, at least in North America. It would have been cheaper and simpler to keep up with changing emissions requirements without a whole different engine line...
