I just pulled mine earlier this week, an '84, and it was in excellent shape, no rust at all. It did get me thinking of something, though, over the years I've seen the question asked as to why VW didn't redesign the fuel tank when the Vanagon went water cooled, as the channel was no longer needed for the heat tube. Well, mine has the optional gas heater, and that channel is needed for the vent coming from the gas heater. Jeff
